For those of you who are familiar with comics, these are DC Comics’ Teen Titans given Marvel Comics’ “Ultimate Treatment” which is essentially making them younger and more hip. This project of mine has been going on for quite some time with early sketches like Ultimate Speedy [link]
and Ultimate Aqualad [link]
Now I can’t say that the idea was all mine, in the Wizard Magazine’s 136th issue they gave the Teen Titans the Ultimate treatment, but I made it better!
Essentially the premise is, similar to Wizard’s idea that Lex Luthor funds this young team of superheroes to put him into a good light. At first they’re a hit and constantly in the media eye, and then fame gets to these five gifted youngsters and things take a turn for the worse. If I wasn’t so lazy, I’d make a comic… But alas…
I went with the original five founding members of the Teen Titans instead of the typical “cartoon” pairing, I think it would be interesting to see how they would act as kids in today’s society (considering when they were teenagers it was the 60’s)
Anyway here are the characters (from left to right):
Aqualad: Garth, a prince of the underwater civilization of Atlantis and Aquaman’s protégé. With the ability to telepathically control water and marine life. He can collect the moisture in the air to form water and even fly (similar to how Iceman creates ice). He’s wearing a red chainmal shirt over some kind of atlantean suit. He would be the silent brooding type of the group.
Kid Flash: Wally West, protégé of the Flash. He has the ability of super speed. He’s the comic relief of the group.
Robin: Dick Grayson, protégé of Batman sent to investigate Luthor’s real intentions. He’s the brains and leader of the group.
Wonder Girl: Donna Troy, princess and little sister of Wonder Woman and runaway from the hidden isle of Themyscira. She has the ability of flight and super strength as well as a limited invulnerability. Donna wears a typical Themyscirian fighting outfit. The eagles on the medallions of her top are the Wonder Woman “W”. She’s the eye candy of the group and is naïve to the society of the “outside world”. (Themyscira is an all women island that still follows the traditions of Ancient Greece/Rome)
Speedy: Roy Harper, sidekick to Green Arrow. Roy is an excellent marksman and is very agile. His arsenal contains many different types of arrows and a Navajo hunting knife. He wears an undergarment that protects him from fire, bullets, etc… His outer tunic is just for show. Roy is the heartthrob who loves the attention he gets, he’s a real ladies man.
And that’s that. Lineart done with pencil and pen, colored on oC, minor edits on Photoshop. Enjoy!
